Carol Peacock, Conservation Training Bursary 2009-10

Carol Peacock took the Postgraduate Diploma in Conservation at Camberwell College. Three days a week were spent in college and two days were spent in independent study. In college she learnt about and developed practical treatments for the conservation of paper objects. She worked on a number of actual objects including “…a very fragile and damaged Japanese folding fan. This involved her in research, covering Eastern materials and pigments as well as the techniques used to conserve three-dimensional paper and composite objects. She wrote “I found the whole process incredibly instructive and rewarding”.

In December 2011 Carole told us the good news that she has accepted a permanent job at the British Museum as a Conservator of Chinese Paintings.  She writes:

"I am delighted to say that both the Museum and Camberwell College have been so supportive and encouraging about this incredible opportunity, and the Museum is allowing me to work part-time for the first year so I can complete my MA in Conservation without any disruption. In actual fact, the work I shall be doing at the Museum feeds directly into my area of paper conservation study and will give me a far deeper practical grounding than the study alone. I am so grateful to the Anna Plowden Trust for the funding they have awarded me to help with the course fees of the MA, which I could not have afforded myself. Completing this MA will not only aid my current learning and development, but will provide me with a sound foundation and a certain legitimacy as I embark on my conservation career."
